The last significant program at Opinaca B was completed in 2017 and 2018. A Hecla-funded exploration program included a 2,945-m (12-hole) diamond drilling program on multiple gold prospects, a heliborne magnetic survey of 1,495 line-km, a soil geochemical survey, and ground Mag and EM surveys.
The most significant results were obtained from the Dominic Prospect, which corresponds to a folded epidote-amphibole-quartz-feldspar vein hosted in metasediments close to a felsic intrusion. Starting in mineralization, hole OP-17-51 intersected 0.61 g/t Au over 30.7 m in a chloritic breccia, including two higher grade intervals: 2.38 g/t Au over 2.0 m and 3.21 g/t Au over 1.7 m.
Several grab samples from metasedimentary outcrops assayed above 0.1 g/t Au, including a sample of pyritized, silicified and chloritized rock with quartz and pegmatite veins grading 6.1 g/t Au, 4.5 g/t Au and 1.7 g/t Au. In addition, several channel samples returned values above 0.1 g/t Au.
Additional prospects have been identified on the property.
